Traditional red earthenware clay. It is a high quality and polyvalent clay, very popular for its fineness and plasticity. Its coefficients of thermal expansion are ideal for standard pottery glazes, in both single and twice firing processes. Incredible results in reducing atmosphere can be obtained (metallic reflection technique). Available in powder (dry form) and extruded body (moist form) in a wide range of water content depending on the shaping application: wheel-throwing, modelling and shaping processes (extruding and pressing).
Firing range*: 970-1055ºC / Cone 07-04
Water content (throwing): 22%
Plasticity (IP Atterberg): 17
Carbonate content (CaCO3): 10%
Drying shrinkage: 5.5%
Firing shrinkage 1000ºC: 0.6%
Porosity (water absorption) 1000ºC: 13.5%
Dry bending strength: 6.6 N/mm2
Fired bending strength 1000ºC: 27.9 N/mm2
Thermal coefficient 1000ºC (25-500ºC): 77.7x10^-7ºC^-1
(*) Firing range recommended for the clay to develop its best performance, both in terms of technical and safety characteristics, under conventional firing conditions. The colour samples may show temperatures outside the recommended range to provide a broader view, but these are pieces fired under controlled conditions. Cone equivalence according to Orton table for self-supporting cones, regular-SSB and 150ºC/hr heating rate.
